August 29th. First week nerves are loud. New job, new tools, new people who seem to know exactly what they’re doing. I keep smiling in meetings while my brain runs a separate tab that says: “What if they figure out I’m winging it?”
If you’re reading this in the future, check in: did you build a routine that actually helps you? Like: a real lunch, water, walking away from the screen, not pretending you can sprint for eight hours straight.
Here’s what I want you to remember: competence is mostly repetition. Nobody arrives “ready.” They arrive willing to be a beginner in public.
Also: write things down. Not because you’re forgetful, but because your brain deserves to rest. Keep a simple doc of what you learned, what you shipped, what you fixed. On hard days, read it.
Be kind to yourself in those awkward silences. Ask the question even if your voice shakes a bit. Most people respect clarity more than performance.
You’re going to settle in. One day you’ll realize you didn’t feel anxious all morning—and that’s the win.
