Terms and Conditions

Legal information and privacy policy of Letter to the Future

1. General Information

Letter to the Future is a service owned by Francisco Sánchez Gil, Spanish tax ID (NIF) 47822716N, that lets users write and schedule letters addressed to their future self or to someone else. These terms apply equally to the website and to the Letter to the Future mobile app, and their use is restricted to people over 14 years of age.

2. Acceptance of the Terms

By signing up for and using Letter to the Future, you accept these terms and conditions in full. If you do not agree with these terms and conditions or any part of them, you must not use our website.

3. Use of the Service

The Letter to the Future service is designed for personal, non-commercial use. Users agree to:

  • Provide truthful and up-to-date information
  • Keep their account confidential
  • Not use the service for illegal or unauthorised purposes
  • Not attempt to access other users' accounts

4. Published content and community rules

Letters are private by default. They are only published in the public letters section of the website if their author expressly ticks the box to publish them, and in that case they are published without a name or email address.

We do not tolerate offensive content. By publishing a letter you agree not to submit content that:

  • Harasses, threatens, insults or incites hatred or violence against a person or group
  • Discriminates on grounds of origin, sex, orientation, religion, disability or any other condition
  • Is sexually explicit, or involves minors in any way
  • Reveals third parties' personal data: full names, addresses, phone numbers or emails
  • Impersonates another person
  • Promotes illegal activities, self-harm or drug use
  • Is advertising, spam, propaganda or links to other services
  • Infringes copyright or any other third-party right

We remove, without prior notice and with no right to claim, any content that breaks these rules, and we may permanently suspend or cancel the access of anyone who breaks them seriously or repeatedly.

How we look after public letters

Sharing a letter is a lovely gesture, and we want reading them to be one too. That is why we work like this:

  • Publishing is optional and you do not need an account to do it. If you do not tick the box, your letter is yours alone.
  • We read every letter before publishing it. None appears on the website without a person having reviewed it.
  • Zero tolerance for offensive, hateful, harassing, sexual or violent content, and for any text that identifies other people. Those letters are not published.
  • Anyone can report a letter from the website, using the "Report this letter" link under each one. As soon as the report arrives, the letter stops being shown; we then review it and, depending on the case, correct it or remove it.
  • You can remove your public letter whenever you like from your dashboard ("My letters" → "Remove from the website"), if you wrote it with the same email as your account. It stops showing on the website immediately. If it has not been sent yet, you can decide it should not be published.
  • Public letters are only shown on the website, never inside the app.

If something published affects you directly or you have any questions, write to us at hello@lettertothefuture.org with the link or the title. We will read it carefully and reply.

5. Privacy and Data Protection

Our users' privacy is a priority. All personal data is stored securely on Webempresa servers and protected with advanced encryption. Specifically:

  • All personal data is encrypted to guarantee its security
  • We do not share data with third parties, companies or partners
  • The servers are located in the European Union, in compliance with the GDPR
  • We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures

6. Communications

We reserve the right to send communications about other projects related to Letter to the Future. Users can opt out of these communications at any time by contacting us directly at hello@lettertothefuture.org.

7. Intellectual Property

The content of the letters is the intellectual property of their authors. By using our service, users keep their rights over the content they create, but grant us a non-exclusive licence to store and deliver their letters as scheduled.

8. Limitation of Liability

Letter to the Future is not responsible for:

  • Data loss due to causes beyond our control
  • The opinions users express in the content they publish, without prejudice to our obligation to moderate it under section 4
  • Indirect or consequential damages
  • Technical problems beyond our control

9. Changes

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately after they are published on the website. Continued use of the service after the changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
