What is a letter to the future?
It is a message you write today and receive in your inbox on a future date you choose: in a month, a year or ten years. It helps you capture how you feel right now, remind yourself of your goals, or simply talk to the person you will become.

Is it free to write a letter to my future self?
Yes. Writing and scheduling your letter is free and you do not need to sign up. If you like, you can support the project with a voluntary contribution, but it is never required.

How does it work?
You write your letter, choose the day you want to receive it (up to 50 years from now) and enter your email. You get a confirmation straight away and, on the chosen day, the full letter lands in your inbox.

Can anyone else read my letter?
No. Letters are stored encrypted and only the person you choose receives them. If you want, you can mark yours as public to share it anonymously, but it is only published after it has been reviewed and has reached its recipient, never before.

Can I write a letter to the future for someone else?
Yes. You can send it to your child, your partner or a friend. It will arrive as a surprise on the day you choose: we do not warn them beforehand, and only you receive the confirmation.

What should I write in a letter to my future self?
Start with the present: where you are, what worries you, what excites you and who is close to you. Then ask yourself questions you cannot answer yet. Concrete, honest details are what you will appreciate most when it arrives.

Can I change the letter after sending it?
No: once sent, the letter stays sealed until the chosen date. That is part of the experience. If you think of something else, you can write a second letter for the same date or a different one.

What if I change my email before it arrives?
Use an email address you plan to keep. If you still need to change it, write to us at hello@lettertothefuture.org before the delivery date and we will update it.
