Most New Year resolutions are forgotten before spring. A letter is different: it does not ask you to be someone else by Monday. It asks you to look honestly at where you are, write it down, and let your future self judge how the year went with real information instead of a vague memory.
When the letter arrives next January 1, you read the words of the person who wrote it, with their worries, their plans and the small details they thought were obvious. That is the moment that makes people write another one, every year.

January 1, 2027
Hi, me in 2028.
It is the first morning of the year and the house is quiet. Everyone else is asleep and the kitchen still smells of last night.
This year was a lot. The new job, the move, the month when nothing seemed to work. But also that weekend at the lake, which I want you to remember exactly as it was.
I am not making a list of resolutions this time. I only want two things for you: that you sleep better, and that you call Dad more often than I did.
So tell me: did you? And are you still drinking coffee by this window?
Happy New Year. Be kind to yourself ✉
